Examples of Handicap Formulas

When calculating a player's handicap there is standard method unless you are playing in a league that requires an USGA handicap. The problem with an USGA handicap is the number of rounds required to calculate the handicap. The USGA handicap requires twenty (20) previous rounds. Many golf leagues do not play 20 rounds in a season. In our opinion this handicap was designed for golfers that play more than once a week.

The LeagueSync website allows a league to create a custom handicap formula that matches the type of golf league. Below are a series of different formulas used by golf leagues using this website. These are only a few examples used by the golf leagues using this service. A feature of this website is to allow any part of the handicap formula to be adjusted to match your golf league.

Standard USGA Handicap
A USGA handicap is only recommended for a serious golf league. Remember five (5) previous rounds need to be entered for a true USGA handicap.
  • Handicap based on 18 holes
  • 20 Most Recent Rounds
  • Use Course Rating and Slope corrections
  • A minimum of 5 rounds required
  • Use Equitable Stroke Control (ESC)
